Why You Should Visit the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa

Last year, I had the privilege of attending the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. As May approaches, I can’t help but recommend this spectacular event to anyone looking for a dose of beauty, history, and fun. The festival, which usually runs from early May until Victoria Day weekend, is a unique celebration of friendship, peace, and Canada’s rich history.

Here’s why you should mark your calendars for this year’s festivities.

A Festival Rooted in History

The Canadian Tulip Festival has been a cherished tradition since 1953. It was inspired by the Dutch Royal Family’s historic gift of tulips to Canada following World War II, symbolizing gratitude for Canada’s role in liberating the Netherlands and commemorating the birth of Dutch Princess Margriet in Ottawa during the war. Today, the festival continues to celebrate this enduring bond and the tulip’s universal symbolism of peace and friendship.
