A Cutting-Edge Marvel Above the Cityscape

The Sky Capsule is a recent addition to Busan’s array of tourist attractions, representing the city’s forward-thinking approach to urban tourism. This state-of-the-art aerial tramway system features individual capsules that carry passengers along a suspended track, offering panoramic views of the surrounding scenery; designed with both functionality and aesthetics in mind.

The Adventure Begins

Our day started at Mipo Station, where we bought our one-way tickets and boarded the Sky Capsule after grabbing a delicious iced drink and some treats from the station’s coffee shop. As the capsule began to move along the track, we were greeted with panoramic views of Haeundae Beach and the deep blue sea stretching into the horizon.

Recommendations: Before your ride, you can also head to Dongbaek Dessert Cafe near Mipo Station for a drink and a great view of the Sky Capsules. The cafe’s roof terrace offers great photo opportunities while enjoying your yummy snack.

The Busan Sky Capsule

Each Sky Capsule offers a private, comfortable ride, allowing for a personal and relaxed experience (up to 4 people). Travelling at a leisurely pace of 4/km per hour, the 2.3-kilometre journey from Mipo to Cheongsapo Station takes about 30 minutes, perfect for soaking in the sights and snapping plenty of photos.

The Route: The route is a visual feast, with the coastline on one side and the bustling cityscape on the other. The elevated track, 7 to 10 meters above the ground, offers a new perspective on Busan’s beauty.

An Eco-Friendly Adventure

The Sky Capsule is part of the Haeundae Blueline Park, a project that transformed the abandoned Donghae Nambu Railway into a vibrant tourist attraction. Donghae Nambu Railway line was first opened in 1935 and ran along South Korea’s east coast, connecting Busan to Ulsan, Gyeongju, and Pohang. In 2013, the line was closed, but since it was close to the stunning coastline, Busan Metropolitan City decided to construct Busan Green Railway and Haeundae Blueline Park using the abandoned railway.

Opened to the public in October 2020, it has since become a massive tourist hot spot. The system is powered by renewable energy sources, minimizing its environmental impact. This eco-friendly approach aligns with Busan’s broader goals of promoting sustainable tourism and reducing carbon emissions. Riding the Sky Capsule is not only a thrilling experience but also a step towards a greener future.

A Journey Through the Sky

As our journey neared its conclusion, we found ourselves deeply moved by the experience of the Sky Capsule. More than just a ride, it left us with lasting memories that stayed vivid long after we returned to ground level.

The panoramic views and serene atmosphere provided a unique perspective of Busan, seamlessly blending urban landscapes with the natural beauty of the coastline. It’s an experience that not only captivates in the moment but also leaves a meaningful impression, offering a peaceful retreat from the bustling city below.
