If you’re looking for an unforgettable, hands-on experience that immerses you in both art and culture, look no further than the Mosaic Art Studio in Ottawa. A few friends and I recently visited the studio for one of their Turkish Mosaic Art Workshops, and I can confidently say it was one of the most enjoyable and creative cultural experiences I’ve had in a long time!

A Warm Welcome to Turkish Culture

As soon as we stepped into the studio, we were transported into a vibrant world of Turkish art and tradition. The atmosphere was welcoming, with beautiful Turkish mosaic art pieces adorning every corner of the shop.

The shop offers a variety of artwork types that you can work on including:

  • Table Lamps
  • Swan Lamps
  • Moon Lamps
  • Candle Holders

Turkish Delight and Tea

One of the highlights of the Mosaic Art Studio experience is the warm and authentic touch of Turkish hospitality. As you work on your mosaic piece, you’ll be treated to traditional Turkish tea, served in elegant tulip-shaped glasses—the way it’s meant to be enjoyed!

Alongside the tea, you’ll savour two types of Turkish delights, the first kind is a soft, fragrant confection dusted with powdered sugar and the other is coated in crushed rose petals. The pairing adds a sensory layer to the workshop that allows you to further immerse yourself in Turkish culture.

Learning from Skilled Artisans

Our instructor was not only super friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable! After a warm welcome, our instructor took the time to explain every step of the process in great detail. It was clear that our instructor truly wanted us to enjoy the experience and leave with something beautiful and meaningful!

At the end of the workshop, the instructor provided us with clear, step-by-step instructions on how to plaster our piece at home and even gave us a bag of plaster to complete the process. For those who prefer a little extra help, the studio also offers the convenient option of plastering your piece for you. Simply return to the studio at a later date to pick up your beautifully finished creation!

This is the video they will share with you if you DIY at home.

Crafting Our Own Turkish Mosaic Candle Holders

We began by selecting from a vibrant palette of 11 different colours of hand-cut glass (a variety of shape options) and beads to craft our unique Turkish mosaic designs. With complete creative freedom, we arranged the glass pieces in our own patterns and carefully adhered them to the candle holders.

Each of us worked at our own pace, making the experience both relaxing and rewarding, while allowing our creativity to shine through. For those seeking a little inspiration, the studio also provided beautifully designed pattern templates to spark some ideas.

The best part? The process was incredibly meditative and calming! As we carefully placed the glass pieces, the soothing sounds of instrumental Turkish music filled the air creating a perfectly zen space.

A Perfect Group Activity

What made this experience even better was sharing it with friends!

We laughed, learned, and created together, which made the final product all the more special. Whether you’re a couple, a family, or a group of friends, this workshop is a fantastic way to bond and try something new with the ones you love.

An Everlasting Memory

By the end of the workshop, I had my very own hand-made Turkish mosaic candle holder. The sense of accomplishment I felt from creating something so beautiful and unique was incredibly rewarding. Not to mention, the experience provided me with a deeper appreciation for Turkish craftsmanship and art.

I was also able to gift my candle holder to my mom for her birthday and she absolutely loved it!

Mosaic Art Studio offers a truly unique opportunity to experience Turkish culture, while also giving you the chance to create a one-of-a-kind gift for yourself or a loved one. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just looking for a fun, relaxing activity, I highly recommend attending one of their workshops.

So if you ever find yourself in Ottawa, make sure to visit Mosaic Art Studio and enjoy an unforgettable cultural and creative adventure. You won’t regret it!

Happy crafting,

Carina
