A Visit to Café x Bica in Toronto: When French Elegance Meets Brazilian Coffee Artistry

Share on:

Tucked away in the upscale neighbourhood of Yorkville, you can find a unique European-esque coffee shop called Café x Bica—a cafe filled with charm, a welcoming atmosphere, and lots of chic decor. What truly sets this cafe apart is the perfect blend of French elegance and Brazilian coffee expertise, creating an experience that goes beyond just enjoying a simple cup of coffee.

As you step into Café x Bica, you’re immediately immersed in a warm, stylish atmosphere that draws inspiration from European design. Located inside the Design Exchange building, the café itself feels like a work of art, with a stunning interior that beautifully blends modern elements and classic elegance.

The thoughtful layout is equally impressive—marble tables behind the café booth offer a quiet space for laptop users, while cozier, more intimate seating in the front of the café invites those simply looking to unwind with a coffee. It’s the perfect setting for an afternoon escape or a relaxing catch-up with friends.

The Coffee: Where Art Meets Expertise

Café x Bica’s coffee offerings are shaped by the expertise of Daniel Acosta, a Brazilian latte art champion whose passion for blending the artistry of coffee-making with café culture is truly reflected in every cup. Known for his intricate latte art, Daniel’s influence can be felt in the meticulous approach to brewing and presentation. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or a casual drinker, you’ll appreciate the care and precision that goes into each cup.

For my visit, I opted for a refreshing Iced Latte, a simple yet perfect choice. The combination of smooth espresso shots with chilled milk over ice offered a perfect balance for my early morning visit.

The Pastries: A Decadent Indulgence

No visit to Café x Bica would be complete without indulging in some of their exceptional pastries, each carefully curated to complement their beverages.

First up was the Spinach and Feta Croissant—a savoury pastry that combines earthy spinach with the creamy richness of feta cheese, all nestled in a buttery, flaky croissant crust. It was a deliciously savoury treat that balanced the more delicate flavours of the coffee and provided a satisfying, savoury escape for my taste buds.

Then came the Double Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant—and let me just say, this pastry is a game-changer. Imagine a crispy almond croissant, filled with decadent chocolate and a rich, creamy almond custard. It’s then soaked in vanilla syrup and baked twice to achieve that perfect combination of crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Every bite was a heavenly balance of textures and flavours, making it the kind of indulgence you’ll remember long after you’ve left.

A Unique Coffee Experience: Workshops and Tastings

While I didn’t have the chance to try one of Café x Bica’s highly recommended workshops, I can’t help but mention them for fellow coffee lovers like myself. Their curated journeys, led by Daniel Acosta, are designed to deepen your appreciation of specialty coffee. These hands-on experiences allow you to explore distinct coffee flavours, learn about different brewing methods, and dive deeper into the world of beans.

There are two workshop options to choose from: the Single Origin Experience, where you can taste one type of bean prepared in three different ways, or the Pour Over Experience, which lets you sample three different origins. Both are designed to engage and delight, making it a perfect experience for those who want to learn more about the science and artistry of specialty coffee.

Final Thoughts

Café x Bica is a true gem in Toronto, combining the elegance of European cafés with the exceptional coffee heritage of Brazil. Whether you’re visiting for a delicious pastry and iced latte or looking to immerse yourself in the world of specialty coffee, this café promises an experience you won’t soon forget.

For any true coffee lover, I highly recommend checking out one of their workshops. It’s the perfect way to enhance your coffee knowledge while enjoying a beautiful, stylish space in one of Toronto’s most luxurious neighbourhoods.

Next time, I’ll be signing up for a class—because when coffee is this good, it’s worth learning more about it.

Happy coffee drinking,

Carina
