This summer, I decided to bring a little slice of the tropics to Canada with an experience unlike any other—Ottawa Palapa Tours. From the moment I stepped aboard their floating tiki boat, I knew it was going to be a memorable way to soak in the beauty of the Ottawa River.
A Unique Experience for Every Occasion
Ottawa Palapa Tours offers a refreshing break from the routine, creating the perfect setting for a wide range of celebrations. My group was there to celebrate a birthday, and having the Tiki hut all to ourselves made it feel like a private little party on the water. The lively atmosphere, combined with the beautiful Ottawa River views, turned it into a truly memorable day.
It’s easy to see how this experience would be perfect for other occasions too—like bachelorette parties, romantic outings, or even family reunions. The versatility of the tour makes it a unique way to gather and enjoy a special moment, no matter the reason.
What to Bring and Expect
We arrived about 15 minutes early, as recommended, to ensure everything went smoothly before boarding—and I’m glad we did. It gave us time to settle in, snap a few photos, and soak in the excitement before setting off. Before heading out, I also made sure to pack the essentials: sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, and a light jacket to protect from the wind.
It’s worth noting that children under 12 are welcome on the tour, as long as they wear a life jacket, but they do count toward the passenger limit. While our group didn’t include any kids, I can see how this would be a fun outing for families too.
Tiki Tour Options and Rates
The tours last about 90 minutes, which is just enough time to enjoy the river views and let the unique Tiki vibes sink in. Prices start at $55 per person or $550 for a private charter, but you can go all out with a custom package, like a sunset cruise, a corporate full-day excursion, or even a wedding (yes, they have a minister too!).
One of my favourite touches? The boats are named Moana and Lilo; which makes my Disney-loving heart extremely overjoyed.
Drinks, Drinks, and More Drinks
What’s a Tiki experience without some fun beverages? Onboard, you can choose from a variety of alcoholic drinks ($5–$12) or non-alcoholic options ($5), all available through a convenient cashless system using a debit or credit card.
As a thoughtful touch, your first drink comes in a reusable Tiki souvenir glass—a small nod to sustainability that I absolutely loved. It’s always great to see businesses embracing eco-friendly practices!
Oh, and if you’re feeling brave—or just in the mood for a laugh—there’s Karaoke Night every Wednesday (Let’s just say I may or may not have given a spirited rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody to the whole group).
Getting to Your Tiki Boat Adventure
Getting to the tour is easy! the boats are docked near Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau, just a few steps away from Ottawa’s Alexandra Bridge and the National Gallery of Canada. Once there, each boat can hold up to 12 passengers, making it cozy without feeling too cramped.
This trip felt like a mini vacation getaway, and the Ottawa River is stunning; especially as the sun begins to set. Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, this is such a unique way to experience the city.

From the friendly crew to the eco-conscious details, Ottawa Palapa Tours really impressed me. The tour invites you to sail, relax, and create lasting memories on the shimmering waters of the Ottawa River.
So, if you’re looking for something new to try this season, grab your friends, book a spot, and let the Ottawa River become your very own tropical paradise.
Safe travels,
Carina
