Time: 1-3 hours
Servings: 6+ servings
Ingredients
- 2 28-ounce cans of diced tomatoes
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 4 crushed garlic cloves
- 1 cup diced white onions
- 1 tbsp fresh basil
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup of cooking wine of choice
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp of dried pepper flakes
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
How to make the Tomato Sauce:
- In a large heavy bottomed pot, pour in the olive oil, chopped white onions, herbs, and spices.
- Heat the burner to medium heat and cook until onions are almost translucent.
- Add in the white wine and cook for about 1 minute to burn off the alcohol.
- Next, add the 1 lb of turkey ground and break apart with a wooden spoon.
- Cook the meat for about 5-10 minutes until fully done.
- Once cooked, add in your diced tomatoes and stir to fully combine.
- Turn the heat down to allow the tomato sauce to simmer.
- At this point, you can add any meatballs and/or spare ribs to the sauce to help flavour even further.
- Cook for 1-3 hours depending on your preferred taste. The longer the tomato sauce is cooked the less acidic and sweeter the sauce will taste.
- After 1-3 hours, remove the sauce from heat and add any reserved herbs of choice.
- You can add parmesan cheese and 1 tbsp of butter for flavour (optional).
- Serve your sauce with this pasta recipe.
- The sauce can be refrigerated for 3-4 days and frozen for up to 3-4 months.
